He’s the infamous killer no man has ever been able to find. Now it’s a girl’s turn.
I was doubting if I should write this review in Dutch or English. I asked on Instagram if people wanted to see English reviews as well, and the answer was yes! So here we are. My very first English review. How many times have I already said English and Review now? Lol! Don’t go too hard on me, because this is a bit out of my comfort zone! 😉
The story
Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord’s daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life. Against her stern father’s wishes and society’s expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine.
When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.
My opinion
Where to begin? This book, Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, has been on my list for a while now. I couldn’t be more thrilled when I finally received this and the other books from this series. I had pretty high expectations because I’m very intrigued by the story.
We follow Audrey Rose while she is on a mission to find out who Jack the Ripper actually is. There are a few men on her list. I’m not really the detective so, when I say I didn’t see the reveal of Jack the Ripper coming, it doesn’t necessarily mean that indeed it wasn’t noticeable. I was a bit in a tunnel vision to be honest, lol.
Mother used to say, ¨Roses have both petals and thorns, my dark flower. You needn’t believe something weak because it appears delicate. Show the world your bravery.¨
Audrey Rose, Stalking Jack the Ripper – Kerri Maniscalco
I was sure of it I knew who the Ripper was. A few times I thought it was the one who actually committed all those horrible murders, but then I was like ‘No, it’s not possible!’. Some may disagree with me because I read some reviews saying they already knew who Jack the Ripper was on page 50. So, there we go, I warned you already that I’m not really the detective expert here, haha.
I liked following the bit rebel Audrey Rose. When I say a bit rebel, I mean for that time of age, I mean we are talking about 1888! Being an apprentice in forensics, secretly. I think that’s a pretty big deal. Also, let’s not forget she is on the hunt to take down whoever Jack the Ripper is. She wants the murders stopped ASAP.
If only life’s problems could be solved with a frilly dress and a pair of slippers. To hell with the world around us, so long as we looked our best.
Audrey Rose, Staling Jack the Ripper – Kerri Maniscalco
She didn’t do this all alone of course. She had help from the bit socially awkward Thomas Cresswell. He is a very smart boy who also has an apprenticeship with her uncle. He annoys her at first, but soon they work together as a team. I loved the connection between Audrey Rose and Thomas. Especially in the end. 😉
I would definitely recommend reading this book. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to start in the next book Hunting Prince Dracula. I’m very curious if you already read Stalking Jack the Ripper? If so, what are your thoughts about it?
