Laurie Gilmore

If you know me even a little, you’ll know this book has my name written all over it. Autumn is my season, so when I received a review copy of The Pumpkin Spice Café, I couldn’t have been happier. Let’s dive into Dream Harbor book 1!

The story

When Jeanie’s aunt gifts her the beloved Pumpkin Spice Café in the small town of Dream Harbor, Jeanie jumps at the chance for a fresh start away from her very dull desk job.

Logan is a local farmer who avoids Dream Harbor’s gossip at all costs. But Jeanie’s arrival disrupts Logan’s routine and he wants nothing to do with the irritatingly upbeat new girl, except that he finds himself inexplicably drawn to her.

Will Jeanie’s happy-go-lucky attitude win over the grumpy-but-gorgeous Logan, or has this city girl found the one person in town who won’t fall for her charm or her pumpkin spice lattes…

My opinion

No surprise here, but that cover! I fell in love immediately. I know, I know, it’s all about the story, and one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. But let’s be honest here: we all notice the cover first, and based on the cover, we decide to pick the book up or not. Well, this one certainly caught my eye. I’m an autumn girl, and to be honest, a winter girl as well. So when I saw the title and the cover, I was basically sold. You should know I was thrilled when they sent me this review copy!

But you’re here for the review, so let’s get started! This book is such a fun, cute, and easy read. Don’t expect major plots or anything; it’s just a really fun, cozy read. Especially if you’re looking for those autumn vibes and want to get in the spirit of it all, I would definitely recommend this book to you.

Quote

They are going to come in here all hopped up on their latest smutty book, cackling like a coven of witches. And then they’re going to want to know everything about you.

Hazel – The Pumpkin Spice Café

We follow Jeanie, who inherits The Pumpkin Spice Café from her aunt. At first, she doesn’t know how to fit in, and meeting the handsome farmer, Logan, doesn’t help her confusion. We read from both Jeanie’s and Logan’s POV, and I absolutely love it. You get to know the characters better this way and understand why they make certain decisions.

I loved all the characters. Some were protective, some were incredibly friendly, and others had that “who is this new girl?” attitude. Overall, it gave me that classic small-town vibe, and to be honest, I’m all here for it. Where can I sign up for a house in Dream Harbor? Even though there were times when I wasn’t as immersed as I would have liked, this was still such a lovely read. I am genuinely curious about the rest of the series, which, unfortunately, we have to wait for until summer 2024. Do we have a title already? Yes, we have! The next book in the Dream Harbor series is called The Bluebell Bookstore.

Final thoughts

Captivated by the cover and autumnal vibe, The Pumpkin Spice Café offers a cozy, small-town story with intriguing characters and a hint of mystery. While not always fully engrossed, I found it delightful and eagerly await the next in the series. Recommended for a light-hearted read!🍄
