When The Moon Hatched: A new world, a new obsession?

The story

He’s fire and brimstone. I’m shattered ice … I’ll gladly burn beneath him until the world comes crumbling down.

As an assassin for the rebellion, Raeve’s job is to complete orders and never get caught. When a rival bounty hunter shatters her world, Raeve finds herself captured by the Guild of Nobles – a group of powerful fae.

Crushed by the loss of his great love, dragon rider Kaan Vaegor took the head of a king and donned his melted crown. Now on a tireless quest to quell the never-ebbing ache in his chest, a clue lures him into the capital’s high-security prison where he stumbles upon the imprisoned Raeve …

Together, they seek truths that threaten to unravel everything they knew about their world – and each other.

My opinion

As soon as the story began, I was immersed. Sometimes you know a book is amazing from the first sentence you read. This is such a book. They are rare, so when that happens, I treasure it. The fact that it happened with this one, and I got a beautiful proof copy of it, makes me so happy! I’m also very grateful for the lovely people at Harper Reach for sending it to me 💜

Talking about the gorgeous proof—and yes, I know people say don’t judge a book by its cover, but I do, sorry not sorry—the original cover is amazing as well. Not only the outside but the inside of this book… chef’s kiss. I absolutely love it when the design and art have this touch of… well, magic to them. This extra bit of effort put into it just makes the experience of reading a book so much better.

When the Moon Hatched – Sarah A. Parker

The world, the characters, the setting, and basically the whole atmosphere were amazingly described. I do feel like it was a tiny bit much sometimes, and by that, I mean it sometimes didn’t feel very natural with how often things were described. It felt a bit opposite of show, don’t tell. Some things were described in such detail that I felt it wasn’t necessary at all. The book could have been a lot thinner and easier to read without the excessive descriptions.

Besides that, I really don’t have a lot of critique, and that’s saying something because this book is thick! 😉 We follow Raeve, and in the beginning, she already gives off this bad bitch energy, and I am all here for it. I love it when a woman can stand up for herself and rule the world. Add a bad boy to it, create an amazing enemies-to-lovers storyline, and you have me H O O K E D!

I am not going to give you any spoilers because you probably already know what I’m going to say. This is a book you’ve got to experience yourself, and it would be such a shame if you got spoiled! I know that applies to every book, but some are more special. Like this one! 😉 Go run to your (local) bookstore, grab yourself a copy, get a cup of tea and a comfy spot to read, and dive into this brand new world you’ll never wish to leave. Oh, and thank me later 😉

TLDR

From the first sentence, When The Moon Hatched captivated me. It’s a great story, beautifully presented with magical design elements. The world, characters, and atmosphere are richly described, though occasionally a bit too much. Raeve, the fierce protagonist, and the gripping enemies-to-lovers plot kept me hooked. No spoilers here—just grab a copy, settle in, and enjoy the experience! Highly recommend it if you also loved the world of Throne of Glass. Some may say it’s a bit too similar.

Thank you so much @harper_reach, for this amazing proof copy of When The Moon Hatched. I am so grateful <3
